Every destination has its own distinct set of local laws, rules and regulations. It pays to get well acquainted to certain local laws to avoid running one’s holidays into bad weather.

Owing to region’s conservative culture, it makes sense to avoid acts of public display of affection. Especially homosexual couples must refrain from being overly amorous in public. Most Indian Ocean destinations follow draconian laws when it comes to drug offences. It is advisable to steer clear of drugs when on holidays to the Indian Ocean region.

Although Indian Ocean destinations are safe tourist areas but petty incidents of theft of goods left unattended, pick pocketing, etc, do occur. It makes sense to exercise general safety precautions.
