Myanmar contains what is best in the East - the phenomenal architecture, the soulful places of religious significance, the acres of lush lands, the centuries' old customs that bind the life together, and the striking simplicity with which life operates here. Despite all this, the most charming facet of Myanmar for today's traveller lies in its ability to hold onto its past while making tall strides towards its future as a developed country.

Tourist Attractions in MyanmarThough there are plenty of places in Myanmar that hold the tourist interest, one of the most popular is the Inle Lake, a freshwater lake that is the second largest lake in Myanmar. Equally popular is the 2500 years old Shwedagon Pagoda, a stunning remainder of Myanmar's religious and architectural history. Ananda Temple in Bagan as well as Sule Pagoda located in the heart of Downtown Yangon also attracts many visitors because of their splendour. Besides Mahamuni Buddha Temple, Mandalay Palace, Chauk-htat-gyi Buddha Temple, Shwenandaw Monastery, Mingun Pahtodawgyi, Dhammayangyi Temple and Htilominlo Temple are worth a visit during your Myanmar trip. Kandawgyi Lake, Mount Popa, National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens and Hlawga National Park are great places in Myanmar for a retreat amidst the nature.

Shopping in MyanmarMyanmar has ample avenues for shopaholics amongst tourists. One of the most popular markets in Myanmar is the Bogyoke Aung San Market, known for lacquerware, woodcarvings and woven textiles that make way here from Bagan and Mandalay. It's here that you can shop for the traditional Longyi skirt and blouse of Myanmar. Besides, Pomelo in Yangon is a unique market that sells high-quality homeware items, hand-woven fabrics and jewellery made by AIDS patients, orphans and homeless. A few other excellent places in Myanmar to take home a souvenir are Myanmar Lacquerware, Ko Than Hlaing Silk, Thein Nyo Silk, U Ba Nyein as well as Pansodan Gallery.

Best Time to Visit MyanmarMyanmar is a country with tropical climate. The best time to visit, hence, is between November and February when the rains have subsided, and the temperature is too high. It's best to avoid visiting Myanmar from July to September when the country experiences the rainy season, and the roads get ridden with potholes in certain parts of the country.
