Combining influences from both Asia and Europe, Turkey is known as ‘the bridge between East and West’. It blends different cultures, religions and even old and new, as it houses both ancient temples and modern skyscrapers. Your Turkey holidays can encompass beautiful landscapes, delicious food, friendly locals and fascinating history.

Discover the history

The history of modern day Turkey goes back thousands of years, meaning there are so many interesting historical places of interest to visit. You can wander around the city of Ephesus, which houses well-preserved archaeological sites, such as the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World). Exploring Cappadocia is another excellent way to spend some of your holidays in Turkey. Known for its underground city and cave homes carved into Cappadochian rock, Cappadocia boasts stunning, unworldly landscapes.

The iconic city of Istanbul is also known for its rich history and is home to landmarks such as the Ayasofya Grand Mosque and Topkapi Palace. Better known as the Blue Mosque due to its deep blue ceiling tiles, the Ayasofya Grand Mosque is a celebration of Ottoman architecture and an absolute must-see when visiting Istanbul. Built in the 15th century, Topkapi Palace was once the linchpin of the Ottoman Empire. Today it is a museum complete with illuminated manuscripts, ancient weapons and sacred relics.

You can explore all of this and more on your package holidays in Turkey with our 8 day Best of Turkey tour.

Taste incredible food

You can't go on holidays to Turkey without trying some of the incredible food on offer. Istanbul is known for its wide range of cuisines with fragrant flavours and spices. You can taste authentic street food, such as simit or pides (Turkish pizza), or splash out at one of the many Michelin starred restaurants around the city. Bodrum, a beautiful seaside city, is known for its seafood, selling fresh mussels on the street and serving balyk-ekmek (grilled fish sandwich) in its waterfront restaurants. One of the best places to find delicious, affordable food in Turkey is Antalya, with local delicacies including Arab kadayif and lentil ice cream.

Relax at the beach

A popular beach holiday destination, Turkey provides the perfect escape with beautiful beaches and seafronts. There are so many places to choose from that offer a luxury Turkey holiday, such as Antalya, Bodrum, Tekirova and Gocek. Surrounded by coves and islands, Gocek has turquoise waters, pine forests and soft sand beaches. Treat yourself to a holiday here to take a break from it all.

What's the best time of year to visit Turkey?

The best time of year to visit Turkey depends on your own preferences and what you plan to do. If you want to visit ancient sites or do a lot of sightseeing, April, May, September and October are comfortably warm with temperatures between 20°C and 30°C. In the summer months, it can be very hot with temperatures reaching 35°C, which works well if you’re planning to relax by the pool. From late October, it becomes much cooler, but this could be the perfect time to visit ancient sites off-season.
