The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is more than just a race, it's the grand finale of the Formula 1 calendar and it does things in typical Abu Dhabi style: bigger, more glamorous and more memorable than almost anywhere else on the circuit. Abu Dhabi has built a reputation as one of the most spectacular race weekends of the season, combining world-class motorsport with incredible entertainment, stunning venues and a city that genuinely knows how to put on a show. Whether you're a lifelong F1 fan or simply looking for a reason to visit one of the world's most extraordinary destinations, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2026 is worth planning your trip around.
When is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2026?
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix traditionally closes the Formula 1 season and is scheduled for late November 2026. Exact dates are 4 Dec 2026 - 6 Dec 2026.
What time is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
The race start time is usually early evening local time (around 5pm GST / 1pm GMT), timed deliberately to begin in daylight and finish under the Yas Marina Circuit's floodlights as the sun sets, one of the most visually dramatic race finishes in the sport. The full race weekend spans three days with practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, qualifying on Saturday and the main race on Sunday.
Booking flights and accommodation well in advance is strongly recommended. The Grand Prix weekend is one of Abu Dhabi's busiest periods of the year and prices rise significantly as the event approaches.
Where is it?
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is held at the Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, located about 25 minutes from central Abu Dhabi and 45 minutes from Dubai. The circuit is famously unique, it runs both indoors (through the W Abu Dhabi hotel) and outdoors along the waterfront with the marina and the city skyline providing a backdrop that no other track in the world can match. Yas Island itself is home to Ferrari World™ Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi and Warner Bros. World™ Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, meaning there's plenty to keep the whole group entertained beyond the race itself.
Getting to the circuit is straightforward. Shuttles run from various points across Abu Dhabi and Dubai throughout the race weekend or you can hire a car or use a rideshare app.
Where to stay while watching the Grand Prix
Accommodation books out fast for Grand Prix weekend. Here's a breakdown of the best areas to base yourself. For a more detailed look year-round, see our guide to where to stay in Abu Dhabi.

Yas Island
Staying on the island puts you within walking distance of the circuit and right in the heart of the action. The W Abu Dhabi, Yas Island is the most celebrated option with rooms that literally overlook the track. The Yas Viceroy, Rotana and Centro hotels also offer excellent options at varying price points. The atmosphere on the island during race weekend is electric, with events, concerts and parties running late into the night.

Al Maryah Island
Al Maryah Island is about 20 minutes from Yas by car. The Four Seasons Abu Dhabi here is exceptional, polished, beautifully designed and far enough from the circuit buzz that it feels like a proper retreat when you want to step back from the race weekend intensity. It’s ideal for those after luxury holidays in Abu Dhabi who want to attend the Grand Prix without basing the entire trip around it.

Saadiyat Island
Saadiyat offers a completely different atmosphere, with white sand beaches, high-end resort hotels and the cultural district that includes the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The Park Hyatt and Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort are both outstanding. Saadiyat is a brilliant base if you want to combine the Grand Prix with beach time and culture, and the short transfer to Yas is easy to manage across the weekend.

Downtown Abu Dhabi / Corniche
The Corniche waterfront, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the city's best restaurants are all on your doorstep. The shuttle to Yas Island runs from several central points. Hotels here tend to offer more competitive pricing than Yas Island during race weekend and the trade-off in commute time is minimal.

Dubai
Don't discount staying in Dubai and commuting in for race days. It's a 45-minute drive on Sheikh Zayed Road and entirely manageable. Dubai offers a broader range of hotel options and price points, and many visitors choose to split their time between the two cities, using the Grand Prix as the anchor of a wider UAE trip.
What else to do while you're over there
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend is busy but the emirate has enough to fill any gaps between sessions.
Visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — one of the most extraordinary buildings in the world and free to enter. Go early on a race-free morning when the marble glows in the cool light. It's the kind of sight that recalibrates everything else.
Explore Abu Dhabi's arts and culture scene — Saadiyat Island's cultural district is home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi and a growing number of galleries and creative spaces. For a full picture, take a look at our guide to Abu Dhabi's arts and culture scene.
Take to the water — a sunset cruise around the Abu Dhabi marina or a kayaking trip through the mangroves offers a completely different perspective on the city and a welcome change of pace from the circuit's energy.
Eat well — Abu Dhabi's restaurant scene is outstanding and the Grand Prix weekend brings out some of its best pop-up dining and event experiences. Reserve tables in advance at restaurants on Yas Island and the Corniche, as they fill up fast. For more inspiration, see our guide to things to do in Abu Dhabi.
