Ecuador Birdwatching Adventure

The adventure begins with a pick-up from your accommodation in Quito. Travel down the western slope toward the Mindo area, with a stop for coffee before reaching the high-altitude Zuruloma Reserve for birdwatching. Enjoy sightings of species like the Sword-Billed Hummingbird, Scarlet-Bellied Mountain-Tanager, Sapphire-Vented Puffleg, and Shiny Sunbeam Hummingbirds. Continue to the Yanacocha Reserve for lunch, and then proceed along the eco route to Mindo, stopping for birdwatching opportunities along the way.

Head to the Reserve Birdwatcher’s House, located at an elevation of 2000 metres. Spot the Plate-billed Mountain Toucan and various hummingbirds, such as the Gorgeted Sun Angel, Collared Inca and Hoary Puffleg. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the reserve before continuing your birdwatching to observe species like the Black-capped and Blue-capped Tanagers. In the afternoon, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. 

Begin early with a visit to the Milpe Reserve, which is managed by a local conservation foundation and offers easy, flat trails. Enjoy a picnic breakfast and observe hummingbirds and tanagers, along with species like the Club-winged Manakin, Golden-headed Quetzal and Collared Aracari. Afterward, return to the lodge for lunch and check out. Depart for the Eastern Slope, arriving at a cloud forest reserve.
Dinner and overnight stay at a lodge in the lower elevation cloud forest. After dinner, join a search for the elusive San Isidro Owl. 

Start the day with birdwatching in the lower elevation cloud forest reserve, followed by breakfast at the lodge. Look for species such as the Green Jay, Chestnut-breasted Coronet, Long-tailed Sylph, and Black-eared Hemispingus as you explore the trails. Enjoy meals and overnight accommodation at the lodge. 

After an early birdwatching session in the cloud forest reserve, return to the lodge for breakfast. Afterward, continue your journey to the final cloud forest lodge, located where the subtropical humid forest meets the upper Amazon. In the afternoon, observe hummingbirds at the reserve feeders, including species like the Wire-crested Thorntail, Napo Sabrewing and Violet-headed Hummingbird.
Dinner and overnight stay at the Wildsumaco Lodge. 

Spend the entire day exploring the Upper Amazon Reserve. There are numerous trails to explore, where you can see species such as the Golden-collared Toucanet, Coppery-chested Jacamar, White-chested Puffbird, and Peruvian Warbling-Antbird. Enjoy lunch and dinner at the lodge and after dark, search for the Band-bellied Owl. 

Start with breakfast followed by birdwatching at the Upper Amazon Reserve. Expect to see species like the Violet-fronted Brilliant, Golden-tailed Sapphire, and Gould’s Jewelfront Hummingbirds, along with the Plain-backed Antpitta and other exciting birds. After lunch, it's time to leave the cloud forest and head toward the lower Amazon. Arrive in Coca for dinner and overnight accommodation. 

The next stage of your adventure takes you on a canoe ride to the La Selva Jungle Lodge, where you will meet your native guide. You’ll embark on excursions into the Amazon rainforest and visit the observation tower, all while accompanied by your private birdwatching guide and a native guide. Activities will take place in the mornings, afternoons and evenings.

On the final day, depart early and return to Coca by canoe, then transfer to the Coca airport for your flight back to Quito. Upon arrival in Quito, say goodbye, marking the end of your unforgettable tour.
