Breakfast is taken early, ahead of a round at the Gaekwad Baroda Golf Club — Gujarat’s oldest private course, laid out within the grounds of the historic Laxmi Vilas Palace, where fairways bend past ancient neem and tamarind trees and resident peacocks wander the rough.

Breakfast onboard precedes a transfer to the Jodhpur Golf Club, housed within the storied Sardar Club in Ratanada — built in 1901 in an unmistakably Indo-colonial style and once the preserve of Marwar’s aristocracy and British officers. Lunch follows at a city hotel, followed by a brief photo stop at the honeycombed pink façade of Hawa Mahal precedes an exploration of Amer Fort’s courtyards, the mirrored Sheesh Mahal and the Diwan -e-Aam, with Maota Lake spread out below. The remainder of the afternoon is free for shopping among Jaipur’s famed textiles and gemstone jewellery in Johari Bazaar or along MI Road, before dinner onboard as the train departs for Agra.

A half-day guided tour of Old Delhi follows — the narrow, endlessly alive lanes of Chandni Chowk, the spice market’s colour and scent, and the great bulk of Jama Masjid rising above it all.

Lunch is taken at Dharampura Haveli, a beautifully restored nineteenth-century mansion where a Shahi Dawat-style meal is served in a quiet courtyard. From there, drive to a renowned golf club in Delhi or Gurgaon, widely considered one of India’s finest golfing addresses, for an afternoon round, before checking into your hotel in the evening.
